It's all in the details with this very pretty locket. Victorian and very beautifully crafted. The Order of The Garter was a medal of honor first given by the King in 1348 to honor the men who fought for him against the French. It was awarded for loyalty and fidelity. The order of the garter is the oldest British order of chivalry and quite the honor to receive. Later, the garter motif became popular in jewelry during the Georgian and Victorian eras. As seen on the face of this locket the garter is set with rose cut diamonds giving it just a little extra sparkle and dimension. A detail border of engraving adds a little more dimension to this polished gold piece. The reverse of the locket has a diamond shaped cartouche which can be engraved with your initials or left blank. Additionally there are acanthus leaves engraved on the back symbolizing, immortality, rebirth and endurance. This locket speaks volumes in motifs! The locket opens and closes with a snap and has 1 glass compartment intact. 15KT yellow gold. 7.3 grams. 28mm length by 20mm wide. English in origin. Not marked but tested. Chain may be purchased separately.
